on Christians & Mental Illness
“You’ve noticed traits or habits in your acquaintance that make it hard to deal with them. Clearly, some issues lie beneath the surface! The truth is: you don’t need to know what disorder they have in order to help the situation.”
This book suggests considering a Christian view on mental illness, healing, and the role of a mindful Christian in the lives of those who are difficult around them. What is the “S” word? How can you live your life in a way that leads others to trust in God? What or who has to change before the Bible’s promises can come to life for folks in our generation?
Why I Wrote This Book
As a friend, daughter, sister, mother, co-worker, and teacher to people suffering with various mental illnesses, I found God was calling me to a different perspective than the world’s. The world’s views of mental illness stretch from discrimination to unnecessary hand-holding. Some put all illnesses in the same box and others leave various disorders in the ‘taboo’ box. While I understand the need for classifications from the field of psychology as knowledge grows, I think God has a bigger plan for treatment and healing than the secular world has ventured to understand. Right now, you may think it’s the other person who needs to change and be healed; God’s Word says it might be you whom He’s changing, first.
Let The Bible interpret what the “S” word is, and what it means for those difficult relationships He has you in.
